Back in the Chi

29 09 2006

Well Im back and its cold and my room is even colder. This is going to be a loooong winter if my room is this cold already.

I love old chicago houses.

Well found some other rolls of color that I had scanned right before I left town.

Ill tell ya what…

kodak UC400 looks freakin weird when scanned. Well at least my experience.

and yes I am pretty much broke all the time so spending a lot on good scans isnt my first priority.

I am in the process of saving for my own scanner, I only deal with 35mm so I was looking really hard at the

Minolta 5400 II. Seems to be very nice and renders color neg a lot nicer than the nikons. But hey if you have a suggestion on a scanner I am totally open to it, cause Im still in the research faze.

I tweaked these some cause they were WAY to saturated and there was digital noise everywhere. I love shooting film but I dont have access to a darkroom or anything for myself so I am at the mercy of the labs. Its not a big deal but you get the picture.

I believe this is a house and not a store. I found it deep in a neighborhood back in Missouri. Just so everyone knows I was raised outside of Branson Missouri so when I go back to my parents house I always love capturing the different culture there. Its so amazing splitting my time between Branson and Chicago.

This one just makes me smile.

It is a happy pic.

Actually all of these are:

Full view this one, look at the yellow sticker on the sign.

This long exposure I kinda did on the fly. Didnt meter anything and I totally guessed at the time. I think this was 45 seconds. Its alright.

Taneycomo Bridge in Branson.

I was following this fox down a backroad for about 2 miles. He was just walking down the middle didnt care a bit that I was behind him in a huge durango.

Then gave me a quick look back when he got where he wanted to go.

Here we go. Two pictures of the best boy in the world. He is so photogenic.

I dont care what he says he loves getting his picture taken.

He is beautiful. Im so proud of him in everything he does.

CHECK OUT THE NEW DEFTONES VIDEO: HOLE IN THE EARTH

Ok just got done buying my megabus ticket. Gotta head back to Chicago for a job coming up next week. Another indie feature but this one is going to be fun as hell. Lots of guns, explosions and Hollywood B actors. Daniel Baldwin and Vincent Pastore.

The megabus rules. Its only out of Chicago or in the UK, but if you get a chance to ride it take it….way faster and cheaper than Amtrak or Greyhound.

I got some more photos to share at the moment.

Just stuff from walking around my neighborhood of Logan Square in Chicago. I haven’t lived here very long so its still fun to walk around and explore.

Everything still seems new and that is always inspiring.

Grabbed this one getting on the California stop of the Blue Line. I see that guy there a lot. Yes I live off California,

the fake California. I see children on the trains a lot that get very excited when they see a stop for California. I wish my mind was still that carefree.

This used to be a park with two basketball courts…

and I used to play there a lot. Now I believe they are putting up some new condos…… Im soooo excited. Dickheads.

Found this pair while walking back from Bily’s the day of his yard sale. Just found it humorous. Someone wanted a new pair of laces BAD. Im sure someone wound up happy as ever with the shoes.

Whats the point when she stays in the house and sleeps in our beds???? don’t know

She is so spoiled but so lovable. Ill through a pick up of her at some point. Her being Zoey.

I love the atmosphere of this photo. I was following the guy on the right and came across this. Not great composition and not great focus (cause I was focused on the guy and pacing him) but the blown out background makes the feeling. Dont know just like it. So you get to see it.

This is pretty much across the street from the photo above.

Walked by this beautiful setup while trekking through my back alley. That it looks so nice yet so creepy. Has a nice feel to it.Has a weird color but hey its a lab scan and I dont have my own yet. Seems odd since it is Tri-x and the rest of the roll looks fine.

Hope all is well and hope you enjoyed this, cause I do. I might get used to this after all.

This is Bily. Bily had a “yard” sale. (We call them garage sales where I am from)

lab scan

Look at all that junk.

img029small.jpg

And this is my poor attempt at shooting from the hip while sitting.

img030small.jpg

As is this.

I know I know this isnt much, but I was super anxious to get some photos on here.

I am at my parents house in Missouri right now so I only have one roll of scanned negs.

I have many others back in Chi-town. I have some nicer stuff to show as well but I dont want to blow my load all at once. It will be a week or two before I can get my other rolls of film developed. Should be some fun stuff on those.

HA here is another funny pic. This game is taking Chicago by storm. Im sure its not new to some people but I dont know why its the “cool” thing right now. They call it bags or sacks in Chicago. I know in Iowa they call it Corn Holin’ and I have seen it called tailgate toss before too. Dont know.

img037small.jpg

I do know its pretty much horseshoes but without all the cool shit like horseshoes, metal poles and sand pits.

Though on this occasion it did accompany a barbecue. A free one at that. So no complaints here.

Hope all is well.

All photos taken with my new bessa R3a and Nokton 40/1.4 Tri-x 400

The first one

26 09 2006

Well since i dont have a prior blog to carry over i guess that would make this my first ever blog post.

hmm not as exciting as i thought. Maybe thats cause im sitting in the hospital next to my dad.

Kinda takes the sheen off things.

Anyway.

Ive never really been a writer or even a deep talker.
well there’s always occasions.
I have always been very visual in all of my feelings and expressions on life.
Even down to just making faces instead of talking. People say i make great faces.

Probably cause i have lots of practice.

I am “technically” a cinematographer. I have a degree and have and still do shoot. I love it and i will continue to pursue it as my career.

Dont know, film just feels like the ultimate expression, the ultimate art. It really does combine all arts into one beautiful….thing.

I also love to take pictures on the side of all of this. Its also a wonderful way to express yourself. but more than anything i like it because u can do it by yourself. Its nice to get away from the world of film sometimes, its a complete collaboration and partnership with so many people. sometimes u just have to take a breather.
Photography also lets me capture REAL life.
One thing film doesnt do very easily. Too many restrictions and needs. It can be done and is, but its a rare thing.

Well hopefully u find my blog somewhat intriging and maybe even nice to look at.

I feel like when i write it is supposed to be read slow. Dont know if thats the way i talk oe more the way I think. Im not a very good speller and punctuation and grammer really dont concern me, but i will go back and try and clean this up at some point.

I should have some pictures up for my next one, shouldnt be tooo long.

take care
