My random life…

19 01 2008

Besides the usual enjoyment of being out and making photos or feeling like you are accomplishing something, I have truly come to love the unexpectedness of developing a roll not knowing what is on it.

For the last few years I have been living in Chicago and I have always tried to make as many trips home to Branson MO that I can. See my family mainly and hopefully meet up with as many friends as possible while being back. Well I have recently moved back for awhile and get some stuff straightened out, and in the process I made several trips back and forth between here and Chicago.

Ok, so the reason for all this, is that this next roll I developed had the most random stuff on it. It had Chicago stuff then home stuff then more Chicago stuff then finally home again. I guess in all actuality I should be shooting more so that it is split up over more rolls but I had A LOT of stuff going on.

So BAM…

Who like guns. I do, so I guess that makes me a redneck. Im totally fine with that.

tech025.jpg

Chad and Robyn, uh “Target Practicing” in a pond full of turtles. We just got done Squirrel hunting thats why they have the full camo getup.

A full day of death and destruction.

tech018sm.jpg

Sam shooting a gun for the first time. Its just a .22, I started them off small.

tech007sm.jpg

Jake also learning the way of the gun.

From there I go back to Chicago.

tech036sm.jpg

Saw this tree on the side of I-55, thought it looked cool.

tech017sm.jpg

Back in the Chi. My cuz Ian lookin fresh as always. I dont remember where we were, some house party.

tech015sm.jpg

Dathan eating the famous 3 dollar Bacci slice. Man I fucking miss that place.

tech013sm.jpg

Snagged this one while I was there as well.

Ok then the roll goes back Branson.

Dathan’s band Technicolour Stallion played a show at the Outland in Springfield MO. I shot some video and did my best at getting some pics. It was stupid dark.

tech011sm.jpg

tech008sm.jpg

I do have other shots from the show that I need to go through, but they were from my Nikon. Ill go through them and see what I got.

From there I took some shots at Darcy’s show. She’s in the Silver Dollar City Saloon Show. Pretty awesome actually.

tech005sm.jpg

Thats a really terrible pic of her, but its what I got.

Look at them lined up out the door to buy 8 dollar rootbeer floats and 6 dollar cokes.

I love theme parks.

tech030sm.jpg

Shot of the actual show.

Well thats it from me for now.

Blarney Island

15 01 2008

I think I will start with some pics from a boat trip I took on the Chain-O-Lakes in Illinois.

It was very very strange. I grew up on Table Rock Lake Missouri which is a very deep rock lined lake with very clear water.

The Chain-O-lakes is a smashed together muddy shallow river looking lake with way to many people on it.

It was also strange cause it seemed like if you didnt have a 200K or more boat you werent allowed on it!

Anyway, it was an experience. We went to a place called Barney Island, which is a bar in the middle of the lake.

They happen to have boat drag racing going on as well at the same time, but I couldnt really see any of that while I was there.

boat014sm.jpg

This is what it looks like from the farthest dock, which I was parked on. I dont know what time it was or what my setting were on the camera but it looks like it is getting pretty close to dark. Turned out nice though.

These were all HP5 at 800.

boat033sm.jpg

The walk of death. This is how you get to and from your boat in the pitch dark after hours of drinking.

Luckily the water was only like 2 feet deep, but you couldnt tell since it was so muddy.

boat001sm.jpg

This is looking out from the “cabin” of the cabin cruiser boat we were on.

boat023sm.jpg

The bar’s kitchen on the island. Top notch…if you like chili dogs and nachos.

boat013sm.jpg

Another thing I have always enjoyed documenting is strange toilets I come across.

This one being on the Island.

Glad I didn’t eat the chili dogs.

boat036sm.jpg

Palm tree in Illinois.  I dont even remember now if they were fake. Must have been.

boat025sm.jpg

Another of the tree. I really like this one though.

boat040sm.jpg

This was the closest I could come to documenting the “type” of people that were there. This pic is very tame to most of what I saw.

It was really strange. I come from southwest Missouri, which lets face it, is primarily made up of rednecks or “hicks” as I like to refer to ourselves.

But since this lake was about an hour outside of Chicago I was surprised to find so many rednecks.  Only all of these rednecks had half a million dollar boats and didn’t talk in a souther accent. It was strange.

Didn’t get any pics of the country band that was playing at the bar either.

boat039sm.jpg

This is the last from the Island.

I just want to say God Bless America, cause this is a truly special place. Where else can we drive huge boats in the rain to a mud slick island in the middle of a river to watch boat dragracing and drink 8 dollar beers while watching 45+ year old toothless women dance around and hit on 26 year old rednecks with tribal tattoos and no shirts on?

America baby, only in America.

boat038sm.jpg

oh and this is Nicole.

boat028sm.jpg

And this is Bill. They snuck on the end of the roll somehow.

Is “snuck” a word? The spell check doesn’t like it.

ok later.

thanks for looking

13 01 2008

Got a bunch of rolls developed and I have started the long process of scanning them now.

Figured I would post up some of my favorites from the first roll.

b

Crawfish boil we had a Jake’s house. Pretty awesome. I caught them all by trap in Table Rock Lake MO.

Delicious.

b

This is Jake.

b

David snapping some pics of the festivities.

b

And Brandon not sure why hes one of the festivities.

This roll had a ton of randomness to it.

Like this one.

b

I took this at my Aunt’s house on Thanksgiving.

Midwest America. I love it.

b

Dudes takin a break from hitting the slider. It took us way to long to build this thing, but we got it up. I have no pics of anyone hitting it though cause I had to by the waverunner driver. Got video of it though.

I seem to have gotten my big ass fingers in the way on a few of these as well. sucks.

b

Glasssssss

b

I think I like this photo cause I dont know where the hell I was to have taken it and Im not even sure who the hell it is in the picture. Its my own little mystery.

b

I finished off the roll at Silver Dollar City with Jake. We were going to see his girl Darcy’s show. She in the saloon show. The next roll has some shots from there.

I know you are on the edge of your seats to see them. So I will have them up soon.

thanks for checkin it out.

12 01 2008

I finally got a scanner so I can post up some sweet Polaroids.

I just got a Reporter SE, I am still playing around with it a bit.

The film I have is pretty old too. Most of it is expired.

Color is 669, I have some BW I need to scan at some point.

d

This is my cove on Table Rock Lake. That is Jake holding the wave runner while we set up a slider.

This is how the color came out of the camera pretty much. I really like the atmosphere of it.

d

This is just a random shot from my yard. I really like the way it turned out though.

So vintage.

polaroids

Zoey the dog.

polaroids

Zoey the dog freaking out!

fd

Western Kansas.

It is overexposed and got bent but it seems to add so much more. There wasn’t much color to begin with so the pastel effect looks awesome.

Well thats its for me.

I have about 12 rolls of BW I am scanning in so expect more very soon.

thanks again for checking it out.
